2014 Black Arrow Cabernet
What it tastes like to us...
Bullseye. There, we said it. ‘Cause that’s what we think of when we talk about The Black Arrow. It’s a wine that hits the mark, the bullseye, the sweet spot, what some people refer as the Zone. Here’s what we taste in the 2014: Hedonistic fruit – blackberries, ripe plum, cassis; rich notes of mocha, brown spice, cola. Loose knit and full bodied: coats the mouth in velvety soft tannins. French oak notes of espresso and vanilla. This is both a drinker and a keeper, meaning, we recommend buying enough to drink a few bottles now and save the rest for later. "Go now and speed well."
What Mother Nature delivered...
2014 was another stellar vintage in Napa Valley. Seriously. We’re not just saying that. Heavy rains in the winter when we wanted them… a warm, frost-free spring… and dry weather throughout the summer. What more could a grapevine want? An early harvest capped it all off. The wines tell the rest of the story.
What we did then...
Pretty standard stuff – hand harvested and sorted the grapes and fermented the juice in stainless steel. Next up: French oak barrels, where the wine aged for 22 months. We racked the wine several times to expose it to oxygen, which softens the tannins. We bottled the wine without fining.
